An anniversary here can be a table for two or a table for twenty. For two, ask for Table 2 and note the occasion on the reservation. For a bigger party we seat up to 32, with another 10 at the bar.
Book through Resy, ask for Table 2, and put the occasion in the notes. That is all we need to make something of it. The room is candlelit, old films run silent on the wall, and the evening tends to stretch longer than anyone planned.
If there is a bottle you have been keeping for the date, bring it — corkage is $30 a bottle for wines that aren’t on our list.
The cooking is family recipes, rooted in the kitchens of Old Bombay and the Indian Army messes and gymkhanas of pre-Partition India. Which is a long way of saying it was built for long evenings, second helpings and an argument about who is paying.
Anniversary parties are usually the ones with three generations at the table. Up to 32 sit down together; past that, a standing reception for 50 to 55 keeps everyone moving, and a full buyout hands you the bar as well.
Let the shared starters do the work in the middle of the table. The vegetarian dishes carry a table as well as anything else on the menu, which matters when the guest list runs from grandparents to grandchildren.
Weekend brunch is worth a thought for an anniversary with children in the party. Service runs Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 am to 3:30 pm, and a late-morning table is kinder to everyone than a nine o’clock dinner.
Your name on the menu
We print the menus with your names and the number of years in script across the top. Guests take them home. It costs nothing, and it outlasts the flowers.
Bring a cake and we’ll plate it at $6 a guest. The kitchen’s own sweet course runs to the Gajar Halwa à la Mode, a fourth-generation Sindhi recipe and about as close to a grandmother’s kitchen as a restaurant gets.
If the evening needs a toast at a particular moment, tell us when you book and we’ll time the courses around it rather than landing the main course mid-speech.
Tell us the date and the number of years. We’ll take it from there.
